Please report bugs here from now on:
    http://wpomatic.lighthouseapp.com/

  2. cron does not work

  3. Jamison Fitzgerald over 2 years ago

I’m having a problem with cron i believe, its not pulling posts unless i goto the site and hit fetch.

    # May 29, 5:15:38 am – Running cron job
    # May 28, 5:15:52 am – Running cron job
    # May 27, 5:07:26 am – Running cron job

  4. Are you planing to ad Google translate to the filter ?

a filter that can translate to almost any language will be very powerful (SE love uniq content)

    /e

  5. Are there any new updates to test? The last version 3-7, didn’t make any posts.

  6. Sorry. Somebody else using your name did.

To them: Luckily, it explains how to use webcron in case your host does not allow curl or wget or php or similar methods. Which means it is perfectly usable in shared environments, despite statements to the contrary.

Also, many hosts will add a cron if you ask, they just don’t want people backing up or restoring entire sites every 30 seconds.

    @karen

My “hosting situation” is not uncommon in an shared hosting enviroment. And I never complained that.

  8. “development demands some criticism”

    Sure.

Just not about people here not fixing your hosting situation.

    see my comment here:

I’m not expecting anything, but a little more response. I know that the plugin is still under development and open source and for free. And of course Guillermo is doing great work, which isn’t easy, and he is doing it in his spare time, and maybe his girlfriend isn’t happy about that… :) So, respect to Guillermo and a big shout!

But for the next one, who want to reply on my comment, I swear: I know that the plugin in still under undervelopment. And it’s open source. And free… And so on… and so on… And do you know what? This isn’t the first & not the only plugin which is under development and open source for me.

(Don’t know why people always think they have to react quite schematically? Don’t you think, that open source development demands some criticism – in a constructive way of course…)

  10. @ ElectroGeek/DjChaos

No, no! I was just alarmed that maybe development wasn’t continuing! I agree it’s a huge functionality issue! I’ve certainly posted a bunch of problems here :)
(“I tried to hire Guillermo to finish the project but he’s not interested. Maybe if everyone contributed $5 bucks to him that might change his mind. Give it a shot.”)

Looking at the other thread, it seems like everything is ok, I just was alarmed by what you said above! :)

  11. You have a great tool and I appreciate the work. I am a developer and I realize how demanding these folks can get without ever donating a single penny for your work. I am only writing to provide feedback as you have asked for some beta testers. After install I ran into a nearly blank page that said I need to switch to Firefox. I use ie 7, is this browser not supported for the admin screens? Additionally, the older version has a strange issue where it does not properly format when I use the cron but does when I manually fetch. Has that been addressed with the new version. I would be happy to donate as soon as I can get a stable version that I can use in prod. Please continue your excellant work.

    Regards

  12. @ Karen
Ooops! I should have commented as ElectroGeek in my previous response instead of DJ CHAOS.

“Not sure where you’re going with that comment? I guess I shouldn’t have said that was a huge problem (fetching posts) with such an urgent tone. I’ve just been pointing out obvious bugs to help out. Hey that’s what Guillermo wants. I have the utmost respect for Guillermo. He’s a talented programmer. I know he’s got other things going on so we all have to be patient.”

  14. ElectroGeek: wait, this is no longer underactive Development?

I just assumed he was, you know, busy doing paid work or graduating or something.

  15. Andre: I don’t think your problems with your host in regards to wget/cron/php are necessarily going to get solved by random responses on a thread all about a plugin that’s under development.

I’m not sure chastising the author of a sorely-needed and (perplexingly absent) plugin will help matters with your host. I’m on several different shared hosts, and this plugin essentially works.

Just like everyone else, the latest non-release version seems to not process automatically for me, but everything else works. Not sure what else you expect from something that’s under development. I hope additional people can come help develop something that *needs* to exist!

  16. I am running v pre1.5 and having better luck that RC3-7. RC3-7 will not automatically fetch any campaigns. That is a huge problem. pre1.5 will fetch duplicates if you don’t add a work around to some wp-includes code, even then it will still occasionally fetch dupes. I tried to hire Guillermo to finish the project but he’s not interested. Maybe if everyone contributed $5 bucks to him that might change his mind. Give it a shot.

Well, to cut a long story short: Yes. wp-o-matic could be a nice plugin. And so thanks and a big shout to Guillermo for his work. But it surely has a whole lot of bugs. And what’s a great problem for me, is the missing response and support to any kinds of questions here. (And btw: It does make it easier to follow to comments by having two posts open for commemts on the same topic.)

The plugin finally installs with warnings, but when fetching feeds the site is completly inresponsive. The only way to get the site back up and running is to delete or rename wpomatic.php.

And furthermore I believe the plugin is not usable in a shared hosting enviroment.

    Thx,
    Andre

(After never receiving any anwer or reaction up to now, I’m not really expecting an answer this time.)

  18. Using WP-o-Matic 1.0RC3 with wpmu 1.5.1 with multi site manager.

It says Please click here to setup and configure WP-o-Matic on additional domains.

Any info on this or how to activate it and make it post to the domain that you want it to?

    Thanks

  19. I’m trying to run wp-o-matic via the cron daemon on my cpanel, using the following command:

    /usr/bin/php /home/leticia/public_html/wp/wp-content/plugins/wp-o-matic/cron.php?code=d3be2ea9

Instead of running, the program emails me, saying the following:

    Status: 404 Not Found
    X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.5
    Content-type: text/html

    No input file specified.

Which “input file” do I need to add? Where? Please help, as I have no clue how to proceed.

    Thanks mucho

  20. Hello.

I am running a site where only topics exist. The posting itself doesn´t exist (see my homepage). wp-o-matic now thinks, that the empty poting isn´t worth fetching, I have to force it manually to fetch the feed.
Can this be fixed? Thanks a lot.

  21. I having the same issue as Carlos now–

Fetch works, but the cron job doesn’t fire processing.

Haven’t tracked it down yet, but I only took a quick look…

  22. André over 2 years ago

    Again:

Trying to install wp-o-matic lastest release on a linux box… Reveived following error:

    Warning: is_executable() [function.is-executable]: open_basedir
restriction in effect. File(/usr/sbin/wget) is not within the allowed
    path(s):
    (/www/htdocs/w009775a/:/tmp:/usr/bin:/www/htdocs/w009775a:/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/share/php)
    in
    /www/htdocs/w009775a/wp-content/plugins/wp-o-matic/inc/tools.class.php
    on line 88

Hosting provider does not allow wget access… Prior versions of wp-o-matic worked… where can i get them again?

    Thx.

  23. Exxon Valdez over 2 years ago

Is there any way to make the intervals between processing of campaigns shorter? I set the interval to 1 hour for each campaign but the dashboard estimates around 10 hours.

  24. I’m running the latest version (WP-o-Matic 1.0RC3-7) on my MacBookPro, using MAMP PHP 5 and WP (2.6-bleeding – Revision 7924).

WoM will update the feeds perfectly when I Fetch manually, but cronjob does nothing. I already fixed the cron command to include an http reference to my development website (I’m using Apache and virtual servers on my Mac, so that http://dev.website.com leads to my local development copy).

Any ideas why I’m unable to automatically update the feeds?

    Thanks… awesome plugin.

  25. Right, after a move to a new server (where Apache etc. runs as user) and a fresh install (dropping all tables etc. in between), rc3-7 is now working perfectly for me :-).

  26. Mat seems to be experiencing the same bug.

  27. Hi,
First of all thanks for this great tool.

    Problem:
RSS / Atom feeds from Google News Alerts are not fetched at all. When setting up a campaign everything seems ok. No error messages. When force fetching no error message appears and the following message shows up: “Campaign processed. 0 posts fetched”.

    Help welcome, thanks.

  28. every time i add a campaign nothing pops up on my dashboard

  29. hi Guillermo, Do you have any idea why the betas won’t fetch a single RSS entry for me?

  30. WP 2.5.1 (of course ;-) ), PHP 4.4.7, Apache 1.3.37, MySQL 4.1.22

  31. Trixxxia over 2 years ago

    Hi Guillermo,

I seem to have the issue of dates for the cronjob fetch being wrong. Fetched a few now, and I still see a December 31st ‘latest processed’ date and next fetch in 2 yrs.

Not very savvy – so any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Trixxxia

  32. @Dan

What version of WP, PHP, Server, etc?

  33. This time I emptied the db tables before attempting to re-install rc3-7. I set up a new campaign, working through each tab in turn, and then hit submit — site when un-responsive. Deleting wpomatic.php restored access.

  34. In fact even when I delete the whole wp-o-matic folder in my plugins directory and then re-installed the plugin, as soon as I hit “activate” in the plugins admin panel the blog stopped responding… again, as soon as I deteled wpomatic.php, the blog came back up.

  35. cron is running but does not fetch. webcron does not fetch either. fetch only works when i do it manually.

  36. RC3-7, PHP5, Linux, Apache, WP 2.5.1 – Web based cron jobs are running now however they do not fetch any posts. I still need to manually fetch posts with RC3-7. Hope that helps.

  37. rc-7 broke my site :-(. After setting up a campaign, I went to edit a setting (before fetching posts — I’d forgotten to change a setting) and everything froze. Blog and admin panel was inaccessible.

Deleting wpomatic.php restored access, but when I put the file back and re-activated the plugin, same result — nothing loaded anymore.

  38. *not

  39. Hi . im using wp 2.3.3! and previous version of wp-o-matic!

for me this feed is now working!?!

    http://feeds.gawker.com/lifehacker/full

  40. I just installed RC3-7 and nothing happens when I try to fetch a feed with either wp-mu 1.5rc1 or wp2.5.1 except “Campaign processed. 0 posts fetched” appears.

  41. More, as promised :)
Perhaps there should be a way to ignore the “Frequency” and “Max items to create on each fetch” on the first fetch for a new feed or campaign? Changing these values twice may be non-obvious to new users…

UI thing: When Checking Feeds, the [] Delete? option oddly and suddenly migrates below a line break.

Settings – WPoMatic – Options – Unix Cron – More:
Help file not found. (additional suggestion: Sometimes “php” or “get http://etc” will work when cURL doesn’t; even if it’s otherwise functional. Depends on server/host setup.)

Also, props for the “o-matic” name. Contractions should be used to humorous ends more oft.

  42. Annnnd… a report on RC7 :) Aren’t I helpful? (laugh.) I keep commenting because I love the plugin, believe me!

Rewrite only seems to work on the content in the feed (item’s description in rss2), and not on anything else (such as title). This might be by design (feature-not-a-bug!), but for example Twitter’s feed is user: tweet-contentuser: tweet-content and so finging “user: ” and replacing with “” results in a post with an unaffected title, but corrected content. Perhaps and option: checkbox for “also replace in title” or “replace in all fields”?

Edit Campaign – if the frequency is over one week, you only see the remainder frequency
(ex: 8d = 1d, or 30d = 2d) (Freq does show up correctly on dashboard)

Edit Campaign – Tools, then any other tab (Basic Feeds Categories Rewrite Options)
    ‘Tools’ remains visible.

There was something else, but I can’t find/replicate it! I’ll be back :)
    Thanks for the amazing plugin!!!

    @mina-san
Sorry for the stupid bug, it’s now fixed in 1.0RC3-7

  44. P.S. – Mine occurred after add campaign. WP 2.5.1

  45. Same error on

    wp-content/plugins/wp-o-matic/inc/admin/edit.php on line 341

  46. I just got the following error with 1.0RC3-6

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘;’ in /home/…wp-content/plugins/wp-o-matic/inc/admin/edit.php on line 341

I got it on both wp-mu 1.5RC1 and WP 2.5.1.

Neither will fetch a feed when I click on fetch (imported the feed setting). It didn’t fetch a feed using the earlier beta either.

I use Wordpress-mu on most sites. I only installed 2.5.1 in a subdirectory for testing purposes.

  47. Ditto on:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘;’ in /home/x/public_html/karenm.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-o-matic/inc/admin/edit.php on line 341

Which is weird, because there is no ‘;’ on that line…

  48. Frequency is not working properly. For ex. frequency is 3 hours but in the dashboard it shows as 23 hours. Also i can’t change the frequency from options. After fetching the rss it still keeps the old settings.
Also clean logs is not working..

  49. sorry, that is WP 2.5.1

  50. Same error for me

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘;’ in html/wp-content/plugins/wp-o-matic/inc/admin/edit.php on line 341

loaded with FF, running on MediaTemple servers
